History - How it All Began (and where we are today!)
On March 2007, a small group of 50 people met in a room at Colony Cottage Recreation Center to start a new club for people from the Pittsburgh area. This new club would become known as The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Club. At that time, the Pittsburgh Club had capped membership at over 700 with a two-year wait list.
Leading the birth of this new club was Emily Emigh along with assistance from the President of The Pittsburgh Club, Joan Lasky. Emily and her small team established a vision of an active social club, prepared bylaws, developed a new LOGO and launched the Three Rivers Club. Volunteers came forward to become the first officers: Bill Wilkie -Vice President, George Gracan -Treasurer, Carol Stramiello - Secretary. Subsequently Marlene Wilkie offered her services to assist Emily so that she would not be overwhelmed with all the club duties.
The first year brought in 75 members and entertainment was anything the club could afford for $50 or less. Membership dues were $5.00. Events started with potluck dinners and movies of Pittsburgh. Game night brought Pittsburghers together for fun and social memories. As The Villages grew, so did the club. The second year, the club grew to 100. The quality of entertainment improved and field trips began. Buses took members to Florida based activities: Steeler games, Penguin games, Pirate preseason games at the Bradenton training facilities and stadium. Members stepped up to volunteer. The club managed to pull together an overnight trip one year to both a Tampa Bay/Penguins Hockey game in the evening, and then a Steelers/Dolphins game the following day. That marked the beginning of what our club was becoming - fun times for minimal costs, good entertainment and pleasant company. Len Nowicki succeeded Emily, after many years of serving the club and getting it started.
In 2015, Don Brozick took over the Presidency along with Marlene Wilkie. The 2017 Elections brought in the following new officers: Don Brozick took over as President, Donna Mallory -Membership, Bev Russell - Entertainment, Steve Mols -Treasurer (who assumed duties from Ron and Ann Marchioni), Art Talboo, Marcia Talboo and Steve Tomaino -Vice Presidents, and Carol Stramiello and Carolyn Martorella - Secretaries.
There have been many volunteers that have helped us achieve a structured organization with fun and entertainment that is nothing short of spectacular. The Pittsburgh Three Rivers Club provides a variety of things to involve and engage members including: monthly golf, twilight golf, a poker run, incline races, tailgating at the Polo fields, organizing Steeler game events, dancing, entertainment, and top notch shows featuring big name performers, magicians, comedians and a hypnotist during the year. One thing has become clear, it does take more than a handful of people to become the type of organization that will welcome all YINZ guys in Pittsburgh to come and join.
The club continued to grow to its present membership of over 600 members. Membership is limited due to room constraints with open membership conducted only once per year between June and August. The club currently has a wait list which we review at the beginning of each season. Each year the club reviews the Membership dues which is currently at $10 per year and we do charge a nominal event fee to allow us to ensure quality entertainment, forecast event attendance and also to manage the capacity of the room.
Our club is fast approaching our 20th year with our Anniversary in March 2027 and we look forward to the many exciting and fun filled years ahead.
